In celebration of the 250th Anniversary
of the
American Revolution
American Patriotic Song Quartet

1. THE LIBERTY SONG - John Dickinson ,1768
2. The New MASSACHUSETTS Liberty Song,1770

3. FATHER AND I WENT DOWN TO CAMP (Yankee Doodle, 1776)
4. CHESTER - William Billings, 1778 (alternate text, 1786)
Important Historical Fact:
Song no. 2 is often incorrectly titled "Free America"
and dated 1774.
This song was written by Dr. Joseph Warren in 1770
and
is more accurately titled,
"Brave America" since those words are used
in every verse of the song not "Free America."
For example these words in the 3rd verse
from the original broadside sheet:
We led fair FREEDOM hither, when lo the Desert smil’d,
A Paradise of Pleasure, was open’d in the Wild;
Your Harvest bold AMERICANS! No Power shall snatch away,
Assert yourselves, yourselves, yourselves, my brave AMERICA.
You will also receive audio performances of the four patriotic songs,
including the first American protest song
("The Liberty Song")
and what is believed to be the
original version of "Yankee Doodle" by a Harvard College student.
Performances of these four songs
by The Old Stoughton Musical Society Chorus
(America's oldest surviving choral society, organized in 1786)
and The Yankee Tunesmiths vocal group

These patriotic songs were compiled
by American Music Preservationist, Roger Lee Hall,
Director of the Center for American Music Preservation.
These songs are useful for teachers, students, choral groups, singers,
